Culiacan’s Botanical Garden’s main focus revolves around conservation, investigation and education as well as promoting various cultural events.

The latest of said pieces is James Turell’s Encounter, the first public Skyspace in Latin America. The artist is well known for his works of light, color and empty white spaces, and has been exhibited worldwide in institutions such as Tate Modern, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.

The branding, developed by Savvy, looks to emphasise Turell’s fascination for light phenomena, giving light an almost tangible character.

A Skyspace is an observatory; an enclosed space with a limited opening above, where visitors can experience the interaction between the sky’s colors – abstracted from their natural context – with programmed lighting. The enhanced observation intensifies the effect that the tonal range of dawn and dusk generates in our conscience and human perspective.

The white surfaces, apart from generating a neat visual balance, are a nod towards the museum’s heritage, functioning as a reflector for lights and shadows.

The gradients propose an elliptical composition, just like Turrell's work, emulating the human eye’s silhouette. These are generated by harmonious and contemplative colors, making every application work as an extension of the experience lived within Encounter.

Stretching across 10 acres, it houses an important contemporary art collection curated by Patrick Charpenel, in which most of pieces are commissioned specifically for the space in order to bring new light to the natural context of their surroundings as well as enhancing the visitors' experience.

The project’s graphic language portrays this experience in an abstract manner rather than through descriptive information.

The identity works as a container for James Turrell’s, who is one of the most relevant artists of our time, ideas, concepts and philosophy.
