Almanac is a hardwood flooring manufacturer that focuses on reclaimed and premium newly milled material, transforming wood into an artful high end flooring. We channeled Almanac's passion about trees, wood & the stories they tell, through an elevated and sophisticated approach.

“We view our wood as a form of almanac; a record of history, climate, time and place, and flooring as one of the most beautiful uses of the material.”

For the identity we looked towards creating genuine material conversations, inspired by timeless beauty, ultimately carving paths of inspiration. The beauty of the raw material – the aged wood –reveals a natural language, carrying its history on every panel, each scratch and scar, each stain from its previous life, and the markings created through natural weathering.

We find harmony in this imperfection, drawing inspiration from japan's wabi sabi philosophy.

Conceptually, wood is approached as a universal language, reframing the classic language of the industry onto a more contemporary visual expression. For this we designed a logo for Almanac which is created using architectural and sophisticated aesthetics, based on a sans serif typeface, adding structure and character to the brand.

For the brand system we use a contrast of sans and serif typefaces, one bringing a simple and timeless feel and the latter providing some classicism and heritage – a typographic approach to its past and history.

The graphic layouts draw inspiration from wood flooring patterns and shapes, structured yet free; a way of reading the wood through texture, in combination with graphic shapes and compositions.
